Lynx have a distinct mating season, occurring from February to early April. After a gestation of ca. 70 days, the female gives birth to generally 2 kittens. Litter size can vary however from 0-5 cubs).

The kittens remain with the mother for 10 months. Dispersal varies from philopatry to more than 400 km. However, the longest dispersal measured in the Alps was 60 km. Home range size varies with availability of prey. In Switzerland home ranges ranged from 50-300 km2. Lynx are reported to live up to 17 years in the wild.
